Surprise Me God Diary
Following God's leading instead of directing our own path is exciting partially because we can better see how God's hand is involved in the personal details of our lives, but also because we are taken routinely out of our "comfort zone."
Just one very clear and undeniable event that occurred a few days ago was a chance meeting with an old Christian friend I have not seen for some time. As I was just in front of the Borders bookstore about to go in, my friend was just coming out. If I had come at any other time or even one minute later we would not have seen each other. Since I came right from work, it was not possible for me to have arrived earlier when we could possibly have run into each other inside the store. God's timing was right on.
I am beginning to cultivate a new sensitivity to the prompting of the Holy Spirit as I submit myself to impulses I feel to do something I wouldn't normally do. This is highly unusual and runs against my nature since I am a mix of Norwegian, German and Danish blood
lines.
Calling the Surprise Me God experiment an adventure is an accurate description. No question there is a real element of risk involved, but the rewards are well worth it. This is what proves that Christianity is real. Other "religions" are nothing more than a system of rules, but Christianity is not, it is a personal "relationship" with our creator, sustainer and savior.
Life lived the way God wants it to be is when it is lived in complete unreserved obedience to His leading or prompting whenever and wherever He chooses and not as acts of service on our part where we make choices what we want to do for Him and when we want to do it.
